SONIA LOSKOT
Principal Spotlight:
School: David G. Burnet Elementary School
District: Dallas ISD
PIC Cohort: 2016-2018
Personal Testimony on PIC:
“PIC is about changing the odds for all students through empathizing to be innovative and at the same time, changing/building/growing/developing leadership capacity.
After 2 years of being a principal in a career that is for life-long learners, PIC was the answer for moving students, staff, the community, and myself to the next level.
The program started off with Human Centered Design (aka design thinking) which really pushed me out of my comfort zone, but to really understand students and teach them how they deserve to be taught.
The shadowing experiences, tools, support, and check-ins have been crucial for my project. I have also used design thinking in many other areas… with parents, community and staff. The presentations and leadership development portion have always been presented at the right time and provided me with more tools and better practice to develop myself, others and to have a greater impact on students.
I am forever grateful to PIC for choosing me to participate so that I can be a true leader and provide the education that my students so deserve. The knowledge in the room with collaborating principals has truly inspired me to grow more in my leadership and I always leave excited to take back all the information to our stakeholders.”

KATIE ESKA
Principal Spotlight:
School: North Dallas High School
District: Dallas ISD
Cohort: 2018-2020
2020 Dallas ISD Choice School, Pilot Grant Recipient, Awarded $50,000
PIC Project: Reimagining the Master Schedule to Enable Authentic Student Engagement and Voice
Project Impact: “As a result of the bold steps we took to restructure the master schedule to ensure all students were in an advisory course that met both their learner needs and interests, we uncovered new ways to cultivate student agency and voice through design thinking, a main tenet of PIC. This led us to pursue a Dallas ISD Choice School Application to become a Design Thinking School.
Participating in PIC has been transformative for both my leadership and my campus. I can truly say that I would not have had the vision or the confidence to pursue the Design Thinking Choice School Application without PIC. Yet, I know this is what my campus needs to get to the next level for students.”

School: International Newcomer Academy
District: Fort Worth ISD
Cohort: 2019-2021
How has your time in PIC impacted your ability to lead on your campus?
"As principals, we rarely get the opportunity to step back and look at everything from above to improve the opportunities for our students. The most valuable part of PIC is the opportunity to think more creatively and to be exposed to different ways of approaching change on your campus. I have been in education for over 18 years, and in all of my professional development, PIC is the most valuable opportunity I have participated in.
Because of PIC and my peers in the program, I have been able to gain tangible skills and thought processes that have allowed me to impact my unique school in new and important ways. PIC has allowed me to truly give back to myself and to grow myself as a leader. I know that I will never be perfect, but I know that if I am consistently challenging myself and am open to change, I can impact the teachers and students I am leading. With PIC, I know it is alright to fail and test out new ideas. This program gives me the flexibility to be human."
