When did you join the team: Spring 2018

What about leadership development and supporting principals resonates with you most?  (Why do you do this work?)

I believe that great schools not only have the power to change individual lives, but also the power to change entire communities, and as a former classroom teacher, I have seen firsthand the profound role that school leaders play in creating schools that thrive. Yet, the principalship is incredibly complex and demanding job that often results in enormous personal sacrifice on behalf of the leader. I am inspired to work in service of our PIC principals because I believe that they deserve to be invested in and celebrated for who they are as individuals and the profound impacts they are making in their communities. 

What is something you have learned or taken away from PIC’s sessions and core content areas?  What has been the most impactful to the way you lead / in your work?

The principles of Design Thinking have been personally very inspiring in the way that I think about my own work at PIC. The notion that everything has at some point been intentionally designed and, therefore, can always be re-designed to achieve even greater outcomes is an incredibly empowering idea to me.  Particularly in the wake of Covid-19, there is so much opportunity to think about how schools can improve the ways we have traditionally served our students, and I am constantly inspired to think about how PIC can create even more impactful learning experiences that equip and support our leaders to do this.

How would you define equity for public education? 

At its core, equity for public education is ensuring that all children—regardless of their skin color or background—receive an excellent education that honors their unique experiences and empowers them to thrive. I believe achieving education equity also means that we empower communities to unite around a common vision for what is possible for our students, and to challenge the status quo by celebrating their community’s collective strengths and becoming fierce advocates for what they believe their students and communities need to succeed.

What three words would your community, family or friends use to describe you? 

Dedicated, loyal, driven

What energizes you outside of work? 

I find so much energy and joy in the outdoors!  Whether it’s daily trips with our two dogs to the Trinity Trail near our home in Fort Worth, exploring a new state park on the weekends, or traveling to our favorite vacation spots in Colorado or the North Carolina coast, spending time outside is a huge part of my husband and I’s life.
